Consumer Warning against N.E.W.

This notice is to warn consumers when bying extended warranties for their electronics, about the practices of National electronics Warranty Corporation.

My personal experince with N.E.W. has been that they are not honoring a warranty for a Television Set I bought in 2004 with a 5 year warranty.

I purchased the Television from Sound Advice in Clearwater, FL. when I purchased the T.V. it was the best price, latest model, and best deal on a warranty. (Now I know why).

The T.V. broke multiple times with the problem ranging from the Light Engine (4-5 times replaced), to the main circuit board. Now when you have an issue over 3 times, by law, that product is declared a lemon and you are entitled to a replacement or full refund. Sound Advice is now closed, so I could not get a product replacement.
I ended up calling my Warranty company, N.E.W and I was given really excellent service!

They needed me to fax them copies of all of the issues I had with the product, I sent them everything I had via fax, and this included a copy of my original receipt.

I was told verbally, that I would be reimbursed the full $4,700.00 amount, since I had this warranty and the store was now closed.

2 weeks later, I called back, Re- faxed everythign AGAIN - and they told me they had sent my information to a disbursements department and I should be receiving my check within 7-10 business days.

2 weeks later, I called back, and they said they did not send it out, because they needed a copy of the original receipt - of which by this point I had faxed twice, and sent a scanned copy once.

I can no longer find the receipt. N.E.W. claims they do not have records to show how much I paid for the items, and that they cannot pay me any refund amount until they receive it. They said they did receive it but that it was 'not legible'.

I am at a point where we are contacting our creditors to get a copy of the purchase to send back to N.E.W. to see if we can get re-imbursed. If N.E.W. does not give us a refund at that point, I am going to be taking them to court and suing them for not only my Television, but my court Fees and lost wages, and if I can get anything else - I will also be going for that too.

This is incredibly frustrating and hopefully we will get resolution to this soon. My only advice to anyone is - make sure you keep ALL of your paperwork when working with these scumbags.

  2. Wonderful. Sams Club uses this same warranty company. My xbox360 has been in the mail longer than it has been working. I've talked to several supervisors over the phone. One even closed my case stating it was covered by Microsoft only to find the error was not and I started the process over. I'm awaiting another shipping label. They indicate I can go and get it repaired and submit the expense, but what are the chances that I will get any money back. Lost cause. Not as bad as yours, at least I still have my doorstop.
